Features

Cast Iron Base
The base is a one-piece, thick wall and ribbed, normalized iron casting. Flat and vee ways are machined on it for the wheelslide, likewise, dove tailed ways for the table slide.

Work Table
The slide moves on dove-tailed ways, a full length tapered gib insuring rigidity in any position. It is raised and lowered by a hand wheel graduated in thousandths. (or millimeters) Automatic feed can be provided as an extra. The spindle housing can be tilted 'in or out, for grinding concave or convex surfaces. The chuck spindle has a conical collar at its upper end which runs in a bronze bearing thus forming a self centering, self-adjusting, smooth running bearing. The lower end of the spindle runs in a straight, holed, split, bronze adjustable bearing. Both 'bearings have self contained reservoirs, oil being circulated by grooves cut in the spindle. Final drive to the spindle is through a bronze and cast iron helical gear, an expanding lever-operated, split ring, clutch being in the latter. A brake is provided for quick stopping.

Wheelslide
This sturdy normalized casting is accurately scraped to master plates and then to the ways on the base. Hand feed or movement is by capstan, and automatic feed through a reversing gear box. Final movement is through a rack and pinion. Adjustable dogs control the length of stroke.

Countershaft
The counter shaft assembly is driven by chain from the grinder main shaft. The countershaft belt is shifted on the three-step cone pulleys by the lever over the unit. From the countershaft, a universal shaft with automobile type joints drives the chuck spindle through a bronze spiral gear and a cast iron spiral gear mounted on the chuck spindle.

Wheel Spindle & Bearings
The spindle is made of heat-treated alloy steel and runs at its front end in a straight-holed, split, bronze adjustable bearing, positioned in a tapered sleeve. The rear bearing similarily is bronze. End thrust is taken on a collar running between a bronze ring and an adjustable bronze nut. The spindle is driven by a 4" Hat belt running over a long laminated pulley. A spring controlled idler provides belt tension.

Magnetic Chuck
An Arter magnetic chuck, radial pole type is standard equipment. A hand operated, current reversing switch is provided. A Magna-Lock USA chuck control system can be provided as an extra.
